click here: JEFFREY ZAMORA MEDICAL FUND

The Zamora 's are medically insured, to a point, but the heaviest burden is being down to just Dad's income since Mom needs to be with Jeffrey 24/7. As you can imagine, going from two incomes to one (all of a sudden) is catastrophic financially, and they are needing to focus on being positive for baby Jeffrey's recovery. This is a true time of need for the Zamora family and an opportunity for great people in our community to come together and help.

I just got home from the hospital, it is 10:40 Wed night. Jeffrey will not be released until his white count gets to 100 and it is presently at 21. He also needs to go 48 hrs without a fever and his last one was today at noon. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers! We have a long battle ahead of us and we are going to need all of you to get through this tough time.

I just got home from the hospital and today was a good day. Jeffrey's white cell count and neutropenic count are on the rise which is a great thing! He is still spiking fevers but the Dr thinks that they are medicinal fevers and by cutting back on some of his IV's that should stop the fevers. His blood work, xrays and cat scan all look good. It looks like we will be in the hospital through the weekend so feel free to call or stop by. We live on the 5th floor pediatrics room 63. We love you all!

Hello everyone! I just got home from the hospital where I left Jeffrey and Erika sound asleep. Jeffrey's counts are slowly coming up which is great. He is still experiencing some fever spikes and if they don't start declining by tomorrow afternoon the Dr. is going to schedule a catscan just to make sure everything is ok. He said that Jeffrey is not showing any signs of infection (Thru blood work and chest xrays) but he just wants to do this as a precaution. He thinks the fevers are caused by his neutrophilic count and white counts rising which sometimes cause sporadic fevers in patients. Hope all of you are doing well and thanks for all your support and prayers. We Love each and everyone of you!!!!!!!!!

Jeff Zamora said...

Well today was a pretty quiet day. His white count is up to 33 which is 7 higher than yesterday YAH Baby!! We were able to take Jeffrey off the IV for 6 hrs today and it was wonderful. We played catch and danced and justed goofed around. He started eating decent amounts of food today which is also good. He did have a fever at 4 am but he went the rest of the day without getting anymore so that was nice. I want to say thanks to Tim Hale and his wife who brought us dinner last night and to Rene and Debbie who stopped by today. Remember there is an open invitation to anyone who wants to stop by and see us. We love you all! Please continue to pray and remember GOD IS GOOD!!!

We are home! We are home! We are home! Can you tell we are excited. Jeffrey was soooo happy when we pulled in the driveway to our house and you should have seen the look of excitement on his face when he went into his room to play with all of his toys! Thank you all for your prayers and thank our father above for allowing us to finally bring our son home.We spent most of today just playing with Jeffrey, hugging him and kissing him and enjoying every moment we have until we have to go back. Those of you with children relish every moment as we do, for you never know what will happen. Anyone that wants to stop by you are more than welcome anytime. Hi everyone. Just wanted to post a little update on Jeffrey being home. He is doing so well. He is so happy. Right now he is taking a nap, but he has been such a happy baby since we've been home. Running, playing, & laughing. I appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers. Thank you so much for all of your support because God knows that we could not get through this alone. Tomorrow he has an appt. at the clinic. Please pray that all of his counts are still up. I love you all.

I know Erika posted earlier in the day but I wanted to write a little something too.. I went to bed last night the happiest Dad/Husband in the world. After 31 days I finally had my family back home. I was getting lonely coming home at night to an empty house. It just wasnt the same without Erika and Jeffrey. I woke up early this morning and just layed there for a while just looking at my beautiful son. He was sleeping like a little angel and I couldn't help but just smile and cry. He is such a little warrior. Having to endure all this at such a young age and for the most part doing it with a huge smile. Since the day of his diagnosis I thank God daily for blessing my life with such a wonderful son. I never thought it would be possible to love somebody so much but I am truly overwhelmed with Love everytime I lay my eyes on him. Please continue to pray for us as we have a long road ahead of us. I know when I go to bed tonight I will be praising God for allowing me to bring my son and wife home if only for a little while. God bless you all!! Jeff

Good morning everyone! Sorry I haven't posted in a couple of days but we have just been at home enjoying our time together as a family. Jeffrey is doing great. He is eating, playing, laughing and dancing all the time. It is wonderful to see him acting like his old self again. Erika took Jeffrey to the Dr. on Thursday and they took some blood to check his levels. We got a call back on thursday night and everything looks great. His white cells have climbed to 5.0 (up from 30), his platelets are at 87 (up from 40 when we left the hospital)so he is doing great! We are scheduled to take him back on monday for more blood work(just to check his progress) and then we are back in the Hospital on Thursday for surgery to check his bone marrow, followed by Chemo that afternoon. We are looking at 8 days of chemo with probably two weeks of recuperation time. I will give another update monday night. God Bless you all and we Love You!j

Anonymous said...

Hello everyone! We are spending a nice quiet family night at home getting ready for our return to the hospital in the morning. We have to be there by 7:30 with surgery scheduled at 9. The surgery will be done inorder to get some bone marrow and check his leukemic levels. Following surgery at some point in the afternoon we will begin round two of Chemo. We are looking at 8 days of treatment with hopefully 7-10 days of recovery time after which we hope to come home again. It has been such a blessing to be home. Jeffrey has been feeling like his old self, running, eating , drinking and dancing like a mad man. Jeffrey had a check up this past monday and everything looks great. He even had his eyes checked out by an optimologist to make sure his vision was alright and it was. YEAH!!! Thank You all for your continued prayers and support, we Love You All! Hopefully we will see you in the Hospital. I will be posting daily updates starting tomorrow so make sure you check back in daily. Love, Jeff, Erika and Jeffrey!

Hello all, we have just gotten back to Jeffrey's hospital room and ther surgery went great. They pulled some bone marrow to test and we will have the results tomorrow afternoon. They also performed a spinal tap to inject the chemo directly into his spinal fluid. We will beging the IV chemo shortly so I will post again tonight! Praise the Lord!!!

Hi Baby Jeffrey, Erika & Jeff,

Lots of hugs to all of you!

Just got home from the hospital and today was a great day! We got the results back from the bone marrow test yesterday and there was no leukemia present in Jeffrey's marrow!!!! Praise the Lord! This is great news. We are moving forward as planned and will continue to follow through on all the scheduled chemo treatments regardless if the leukemia is present or not. On a different note a good friend of mine Mike M recently lost his mother to a heart attack. We went to her funeral today but please keep him in your prayers as well. Thank You all for your Love and Support! Love Jeff, Erika and Jeffrey

I just got home from the hospital and Jeffrey had another good day! He received a blood transfusion earlier in the day and he started his Chemo at 8 tonight. Happy Fathers Day! Jeffrey had another good day today, his counts look good and he was in good spirits all day. Today was a really special Fathers Day for me. I am not sure if most of you know our daily routine but I usually arrive back at the hospital each morning to relieve my wife who then gets to come home for a couple of hours and shower and relax. This morning I spent about 2 1/2 hours alone with Jeffrey. I will never forget this Father's day. I would never have thought I would spend a Fathers Day with my son, in a hospital room, battling a deadly disease. I held him so tight at times, just enjoying the time to bond with my son. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH IT HURTS. Not a day goes by that I don't thank God for allowing me to have son who is such a blessing. I also pray that GOd would give me the strength to get through this, for it is not easy and each day we spend in the hospital the more drained we become. Thank you all for keeping us in your prayers because through him all things are possible! Love, Jeff,Erika and Jeffrey!

Jeff, it is such a joy and privilege to see God moving in your life and bringing you closer to Him. It is such a comfort to know we are never alone nor do we have to carry our heavy burdens by ourselves.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10
The Lord said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. This is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weakness, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

He made a normally humdrum Monday night into something very special for me! Thank you Erika and Jeff for sharing your charismatic little man. He is truly a gift! My thoughts and prayers continue to be with the entire Zamora family.

Hello everyone! We had a great weekend and we hope you did too! Jeffrey has been on the go ever since we got him home on Friday. It is such a joy to watch him run around the house, dancing, playing catch and just being his old self. As far as his health we had a pretty uneventful weekend, no fevers or vomiting. We did notice this morning that he is starting to get a couple of mouth sores so we will start scrubbing his mouth and tongue with some prescription meds 3 times a day until they go away. We went into the hospital this morning to get some blood work done and we just got a call from the hospital with the results. His neutrophil count is at 48(should be above 100) and his platelets are dropping as well so we will be going in on Thursday for a blood transfusion and a platelet transfusion so we will be there all day. Please pray that everything goes smoothly on Thursday so we can come home that night! I will post again when we get back from the hospital on Thursday. Thanks for checking in and we Love You All!!!!

Good morning everyone! We are getting ready to head into the hospital for some blood transfusions. We are scheduled to begin at 2 and it should take about 4-5 hours. Jeffrey definetly needs some platelets as his arms and legs are covered with bruises. Last night Erika and I finally had a night out which was wonderful. We went to the Gwen Stefani concert and got to sit in the front row thanks to the wonderful people at Cox who gave us the tickets. For those that don't know Gwen is Erika's favorite singer and I was planning on taking her prior to everything happening with Jeffrey. By the time I went online to buy tickets they were sold out. Since Cox is a major sponsor at the county bowl they were kind enough to give us tickets. I will post again tonight when we get home from the hospital. Love, Jeff,Erika and Jeffrey!

Good morniing everyone! Well yesterday was a long day. We went into the hospital at 2 and we didn't get our until 11:00 p.m. Everything went smooth for the most part except Jeffrey spiked a little fever that came right down with a little Tylenol and then he broke out in hives from the platelet transfusion. Apparently that is pretty common and they went away in about 20 minutes after a little Benadryl. He is still Neutropenic so he still can't be around other children, but hopefully he will get his counts back up by Monday so he can start playing with all his cousins and friends! Thanks again everyone for all your uplifting comments, it is such a joy each day to read words of encouragement from all our family and friends. We Love you all! Jeff, Erika and Jeffrey

Well so much for the smooth sailing. Jeffrey spiked a fever of 102 so we had to bring him back into the hospital. They just took some blood cultures and we will have the results in about an hour. they want to make sure there is no bacterial infection going on(which would not be good at all). Please pray for Jeffrey as he is really tired and not feeling well right now. We will now be here for atleast 24 hours and during that time he cannot spike a fever otherwise it resets the clock to a new 24 hours. I will update again later. Love, Jeff

Hello everyone, hope you all are enjoying this gorgeous weekend weather! We are still in the hospital. Jeffrey hasn't had a fever since yesterday morning but he has been in quite a bit of pain because of mouth and throat sores. They gave him a little morphine a while ago and he is doing much better now. The Dr. came in and talked to us at 1 and said he would be back tomorrow afternoon and he would evaluate his progress and determine when he can go home again. He said it is looking like Tuesday or Wednesday is most likely. I will update everyone again tomorrow. Love, Jeff,Erika and Jeffrey

Well we got the results of the blood tests from Friday and it turns out Jeffrey has a bacterial infection. The Dr. said we caught it early and so far the antibiotics he is taking has been working. We will know exactly what type of infection tomorrow but the Dr. said that hopefully Jeffrey will be able to come home either tomorrow night or wednesday. I also want take the time to Thank my beautiful wife, for it was 2 years ago today that she gave me the honor of being my wife. What a lucky man I am. She is so strong and supportive of me and Jeffrey! i Love you Erika and I thank God daily for bringing you into my life! Love, Jeff

Good afternoon everyone! Sorry I haven't posted in a while but we have just been enjoying our family time at home. Jeffrey went in and had his blood work done on Thursday and everything looked good. He goes back in tomorrow for another check of his levels and then we are slated for outpatient surgery on Wednesday morning. He will go in and they will pull some bone marrow and test it to see where his Leukemia levels are at. The Dr. will then call us Wednesday night and let us know when we start round 3 of Chemo. The plan is either Thursday or Friday depending on the results of the test. I will post again tomorrow night! We love you all!!!

Anonymous said...

Well we finally got a call from the Dr's office and it appears that Jeffrey's counts are coming up! Yeah! The counts however are borderline in regards to being high enough to start round 3 of Chemo. The Dr. is 50/50 about surgery on wednesday and chemo following that. He is going to call us tomorrow with a final decision. We are hoping that he waits until next week for the surgery and chemo so we can have another week to recharge our batteries at home, but if he says wednesday is a go then so be it. I will post tomorrow as soon as we get his final decision. Talk to you then! Love, The Z's

Good evening everyone! Well we finally received a call from the Dr. they are going to postpone his surgery and round 3 of chemo until next week. The Dr. said he just wanted Jeffrey's counts to come up more before we move forward. Erika and I were happy to hear this since we wanted another week at home to recharge our batteries and enjoy more family time. His next Dr's visit will be Monday for a clinical check so I won't be posting again until then. Thank You all for checking in regularly to monitor Jeffrey's progress, We love you all so much! Please kiss your loved ones and tell them how much you love them, for you never know what tomorrow brings.

Dear Jeff and family:
We just learned of little Jeffrey's illness and it brought back memories of when YOU were a little guy and we all prayed for God to heal you of your blood dyscrasia. It is the same, faithful God we will be praying to for little Jeffrey's healing. Also, for strength, peace, and joy for each of you as the winds blow turmoil into your lives. My God's presence be felt in mighty ways as you draw close to Him and to each dear one during this time. We love you and will lift you all to the throne of God each day.

Good morning everyone! Just wanted to give everyone an update, Jeffrey is doing GREAT! He has so much energy and is so happy, it is such a joy to see him like this. He goes in for clinicals on Monday so I will update again Monday night. On another note I would like to ask a favor of everyone. The posting previous to this one is from a wonderful family that Erika and I had the pleasure to meet in the hospital, the Mireles family. We had been in the hospital for about a month and while sitting in the lobby our families began talking. Their darling little daughter Isa was diagnosed with Leukemia as well, and Erika and I had an instant connection with them. Please, when you pray for Jeffrey today add a little prayer for Isa and her family. You will never know how much it means to know how many people love and pray for you on a daily basis and right now I know that the Mireles family could use some of that prayer and support as well. They too have a long battle ahead of them, but with GOd's grace and kindness they too have hope like we do! Thank You ALL! Love Jeff and Erika and Jeffrey!!!

Good evening everyone! well Jeffrey went in for his clinical blood tests today and all his counts look Great! That means we are on schedule for outpatient surgery on wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m. They will take a sample of his bone marrow from his hip and then call us wednesday night and tell us when to check in to the hospital for round 3 of chemo. It will either be thursday or friday. I will post again when we find out what day we check in.Thanks again for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers and continue to pray for Erika and I to have strength as we once again head back into the hospital. We know it is where Jeffrey needs to be but it really drains our energy quickly being in there so much. At times it feels like we have never left! Anyway, Jeffrey is jumping on me yelling for Elmo so I gotta go. We Love you all, Jeff Erika and Jeffrey

Hello everyone! We just got back from the hospital and everything went great. Jeffrey was such a trooper! He had all the nurses laughing with all his little quotes and his stellar dance moves :), he gets that from his MOM! Anyway, they went in and pulled some bone marrow and we should have the results tonight. They also did a spinal tap and injected the chemo right into his spinal column. He is really groggy right now and the Dr. said he needs to spend an nice quiet day/night at home. It looks like if all his counts look good we will begin round 3 on Monday. Yipee, another weekend at home with the family!!! I will post again tonight when we hear from the Dr. Love, Jeff

I will post an update as soon as we hear from him. Jeffrey is doing great right now aside from a little pain in his back fromt the spinal tap. Keep on praying for him and Thank you for keeping us all in your thoughts and prayers! Well we finally got the call from the Dr. and Jeffrey's bone marrow has not recovered enough to start the 3rd round yet. The Dr. said it is not uncommon and that there is nothing to worry about, Jeffrey just needs his bone marrow to recover more before they can proceed. He is scheduled to go back in next wednesday for another bone marrow surgery and if his marrow is recovered then we can begin chemo. We are excited to be able to spend another family weekend together!!!! We are going to enjoy as much time away from the hospital as we can! We Love you all, GOD BLESS!!! Love, The Z's

David & Cassie said...

Hey Z's,
Haven't stopped the prayers! Thank God for the knowledge that Jeffery's Dr. is proceeding with on holding off until his bone marrow has a chance to recover. We know that Chemo kicks butt on bad as well as good cells, so this extra time will let Jeffery refuel.

Well we finally got a call from the Dr's office and it looks like we have Jeffrey at home for another week. His bone marrow is not fully recovered yet so we will go back in next wednesday for another surgery to test his marrow again. We asked the Dr. if this was a concern for him but he said it was nothing to worry about, sometimes it takes longer for some people's bone marrow to recover than others. Jeffrey will go in for clinical blood tests on Monday so I will post again then. Thanks for checking in. We Love you all, have a great weekend, I know we will. :) Love, The Z's

Hi Jeff and Erika and little Jeffrey: We've been checking frequently to see what the results were. So, let's look at this in a positive light--you get to stay away from the hospital for another week! Please don't be disappointed--Jeffrey is doing exactly what he needs to do! You guys are always in our thoughts and prayers. Love, The Mireles Family

You know how you're supposed to make a really big wish when you blow out your birthday candles? Well, ever since I was a little girl, I just couldn't come up with anything to wish for. (There was just too much pressure with all those people looking at me!)

So ever since I can remember I've wish the same thing on every birthday - I wished that I could make a really good wish . . .later!

So I've been saving up wishes for over 30 years, and I hadn't found anything really great to "spend" them on.. .until I saw Jeffrey's picture.

So I'm sending a lifetime of good wishes, packaged in prayers for your little Jeffrey!

Much love, hugs and prayer,

Well we just had an exciting end of the day. Jeffrey just pulled out his central line from his chest. For those of you not familiar with this line it is what the Dr and nurses use to check his blood, give him his IV's and his chemo. It was surgically implanted in his chest to make it easier for everyone working on him and we were told that there would be a possibility that he would pull it out. THERE IS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT! The Dr. is making some calls to see when we can schedule a surgery to put the line back in, but in the meantime his surgery scheduled for tomorrow morning is off. I will post again when we get more info. Love, The Z's

Anonymous said...

Hello everyone! Well today was an eventful day. Jeffrey went in at 9 this morning and went in for surgery at 10. The surgery entailed the implant of a new Hickman line and then the Dr. pulled some bone marrow for testing. We should have the results sometime tomorrow. If his marrow is fully recovered then we will begin round 3 of chemo on monday. I will post again tomorrow when we get the info. We Love you all!

Anonymous said...

Well we just got off the phone with the Dr. and Jeffrey's marrow is fully recovered. What that means is that we will be going back into the hospital on Monday for round 3 of chemo. This round will be 5 days and if everything goes smoothly we should be released on the 6th day. Please pray for a smooth round and remember you are all welcome to visit us while we are there! Have a fun and safe fiesta!! Love, The Z's

Well we are here in the hospital and Jeffrey just started his 3rd round of Chemo. So far he is doing great! He is eating chicken tenders and watching ELMO! The Dr. said he doesn't anticipate any problems with this round and we should be going home either friday or saturday. He did say however that he wouldn't be surprised if we have to come back within 5-7 days because of fevers. If that is the case then he will not be making an appearance at the barbque which is a little disappointing. Erika and I will be there, just not at the sametime. We will alternate watching Jeffrey and going to the Barbque. I will update again later tonight! Love, the Z's

I just got home from the hospital and so far we are off to an exciting start. Jeffrey spiked a fever of 104.5 tonight. The Dr. thinks it was from the chemo. He had the nurse give him tylenol and the fever came down, so we are looking good. When I left Jeffrey was fast asleep in his Mommy's arms, not a care in the world. He is such a strong little boy! I thank the Lord that he will never remember this, but Erika and I will never forget it! Each day is a blessing, so remember to tell your loved ones how much you love and appreciate them. Just like Erika and I love and appreciate all of you! Love, The Z's

Day 2 of Chemo went well. Jeffrey was a little tired early in the day but in the afternoon he started getting pretty antsy. It is so hard to keep a 21 month old in a bed hooked up to an IV all day! He didn't spike any fevers today but the Dr. said it is just a matter of time. He is not concerned if he spikes one because that has been the norm so far. I will update again in the morning. Also, I want you all to know how much Erika and I appreciate your postings and your prayers. I ran into Teresa Huerta at the store tonight and I was able to tell her how much it means to my family to see you all posting words of strength and support. Hopefully I will be able to see each and everyone of you and express my gratitude and give you all a big hug! Love, The Z's

Update on day 3 of Chemo: Jeffrey is fast asleep right now, but his chemo is going well. He was fever free yesterday and last night so that is a blessing. The Dr. just came in and talked with me for a little while. He said everything looks good, Jeffrey's counts look good so he doesn't anticipate a blood transfusion anytime soon. I can't even remeber the last time he had a transfusion. Praise the Lord! Also, a fun little fact for those of you who haven't seen Jeffrey in a while. We were out of the hospital for 1 month and during that time he grew two inches and he put on a pound, putting him at 29 lbs. He is a solid little boy!!! :) I will post again tonight. Love, Jeff

Round 3 day 4 update: Jeffrey had an uneventful night. No fevers, no pain, just a little rash that went away after a little benedryl. He is getting a four hour chemo treatment right now and he is fast asleep. The Dr. should be coming by this afternoon with an update on his counts so I will post again when I have more info. Love, The Z's

Update on day 4: Well Jeffrey had a relatively quiet day. He had 5 hrs of chemo and he spiked a slight fever and broke out in a rash but a little tylenol and benedryl and he was fine. When I left he was fast asleep on his mommy. If everything goes smoothly tomorrow we will be released at 8 p.m. Please pray for another Great day so we can bring our son home and I can have my family back at home with me! Love, The Z's

Round 3 Day 5 update: Well Jeffrey's chemo had gone smoothly all day until about an hour ago. He broke out in a rash and won't stop itching. The Dr. gave him some benedryl but that just made him drowsy but still itching. They are now going to give him some decadrol and hopefully that will make the rash go away. If the rash goes away then we will probably be going home around 10:30 or 11:00 tonight. Hopefully our next post will be from home.

Hello everyone. I wanted to give you an update on Jeffrey, but first of all I just wanted to thank everyone for coming out and supporting our family on Saturday. It was so amazing to see how many people love us. Jeff and I still choke up just thinking about it. We are so blessed to know how many people love us. Words can't express how thankful we are to all of you and to everyone that put such hard work into this event. I am so glad that Jeffrey was able to come and see how many people love him, support him, and pray for him everyday. He was so happy and had a great time running around. Well, today I took Jeffrey in for labs (where we ran into the Mireles Family with Isa, she looked so great and cute!!!) and I got a call back from Pam, Jeffrey's nurse who said that Jeffrey's counts are very low right now. He will need a blood transfusion within the next day or two. His ANC is extremely low so we will have to be very careful with him. His platelet count was low, but OK. If he gets a fever, we will need to take him into the hospital right away. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers tonight that he does not get a fever or infection. Anytime away from the hospital is a good thing as we get to spend our time together as a family at home. I will have to post a picture that I took last night of Jeff and Jeffrey. It was the cutest thing ever! They looked so cute and innocent, well at least Jeffrey did. Just kidding Jeff, I love you!!! Well I will update if there are any changes. I love you all!

rene and jessica mireles said...

Hi Zamora Family. It was great to see you in the clinic today. We also found out that Isa's ANC is super low so she was taken off her oral chemo meds for a week to get her white count to go up. Rene and I were talking today and we realized that our "worry" level probably won't go down for years! We know what you are going through! So, I guess we just have to keep thinking positively and know that we are all in good hands! We are in love with little Jeffrey and plan on marrying him off to Isa someday! So sorry we missed the party on Saturday. We are so happy it was a great success! Our love to you all, The Mireles Family

So hard to hear Jeffrey's counts are so low especially after having him running around our house today like the good ole days. He was so cute taking little bites out of our fruit! Telling us A-Boo (translation: love you). But I know God is holding him in the palm of His hand and he will bounce back soon, as will Isa... How do we begin to thank everyone for their support at the BBQ and all the days leading up to it and even for now holding Jeffrey up in their prayers? The BBQ was far greater than I even envisioned it! It was amazing to see all that love and support. I know I speak not only for Michael and myself but for the entire BBQ committee when I say we will never be able to thank each and everyone of you enough. Thank you Yolanda and Veronica for stepping up and doing this for us in honor of your sister Lili. I know she is so proud of you. I am so grateful that Jeffrey, Erika and Jeff could be there as a family and see how much we all love them and support them. In a world where the media is so quick to air so much devastation it is great to see a community pull together in support of one great little guy and his family... Erika, I am in awe of you, of your patience, perseverence and faithfulness! I can barely hold it together when my kids have the flu! You are amazing. I am learning great lessons from all 3 of you. A-BOO!! Ruth, Michael, Jacob and Sisi.

Just wanted to update everyone on Jeffrey: He went in yesterday for blood and platelet transfusions. He was in the hospital for about 8 hours. He then went home for about 3 hours and he spiked a fever. We have just been readmitted into the hospital and put in a room on the pediatric floor. It looks like we will be here a minimum of 48 hrs. Jeffrey's counts are at zero so he needs to be monitored closely for possible infections. I will post again tomorrow when I have more info. Love, The Z's

It can sometimes be hard to find the good in our life experiences, but just know that God is good all the time, even when it doesn't seem like it. Let us know if you need anything at all. Good morning everyone! Just wanted to update you all on Jeffrey. RIght now he is fast asleep in Daddy's arms, looking like a little angel. The Dr. came in and talked with me a little while ago and he said the blood work done on Friday morning showed no signs of infection. Since the blood was taken at 1 a.m. he wants to look at it again today because sometimes infections don't show up until 48 hrs later. He also said his ANC has risen a little bit but his hemoglobin count is low so he will be getting another blood transfusion this afternoon. Thank you all for your thoughts and Prayers! I will update again this tonight when I get home. Love, The Z's.

Latest update on Jeffrey: Well we had a nice long day in the hospital. Jeffrey was as hyper as ever. What a challenge trying to keep a 22 month old in a bed hooked up to IV's allday. The good news is he hasn't had a fever since yesterday afternoon and we are hoping that the Dr. will let us bring him home tomorrow. His white count is slightly above zero which means he is still neutropenic so no raw foods or children to play with for a while. I do want to thank our parents for coming and watching the little man so Erika and I could go out for a nice quiet dinner. We need to take the time to focus on each other once in a while! I will post tomorrow when we find out if we can come home or not. Love, The Z's

Hello everyone, I just wanted to post and let everyone know that WE ARE HOME!!! YEAH!!!!! Not only that but Jeffrey didn't need to get a platelet transfusion because his counts were coming up on their own! Praise the Lord! Thank you all for your prayers and support once again! Erika and I are humbled daily by all the love and support you all continue to give us! Jeffrey goes back in on Thursday for bloodwork so I will update that night when we get the results. Good morning everyone, sorry we haven't posted in a while but there really hasn't been much to tell you about. We went in yesterday for blood work and the results were GREAT. ALL of Jeffrey's counts are up and his platelets doubled on their own so he won't need a transfusion. We are scheduled to go back in early next week for more blood work and to determine when his next round of chemo will be. This weekend the three of us will be going on a cancer retreat up at EL Capitan canyon. We are really excited because we will get to meet other children and parent who are either going thru or have gone thru what we are. There will be counselors and nurses to watch the kids while the parents go to support groups, get messages, go on walks, swim etc. I am sure it is going to be a very emotional experience talking to other families but we are looking forward to it. Hope you all have a wonderful day! Love, The Z's

Hello everyone, I haven't posted in a while so I thought now would be a good time. Jeffrey's counts are coming up but not far enough yet to start round 4 of chemo. He will go back in again monday for more blood work. If his counts look good then we will go in on that wednesday for the bone marrow asperation. Thank you all for checking in daily to this site and for all your continued thoughts and prayers. We had an amazing weekend at El Capitan. It was sponsored by the American Cancer Society and we got a chance to meet other families going through the same thing we are. There were counselors there to watch the kids so Erika and I went on a hike, got a message, Erika got a facial and we hung out by the pool. It was very emotional at times, but it was nice talking to other families who have been where we are. Every day is a battle against this dreaded disease, but we are fortunate enough to have all of you in our corner. I don't know how we could do this without all of you! It seems like everytime I get down or struggle with my thoughts one of you calls or emails us and has just the right thing to say to pick up our spirits. Please remember: each day is a blessing so tell your loved ones how much you love and appreciate them, just like we love and appreciate all of you! Love, The Z's

Well Jeffrey went in today for some blood work and we should have the results tonight or tomorrow morning. I also wanted everyone to know that I was asked to speak at the annual fundraising luncheon for the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation. It is tomorrow from 11-1 at the Biltmore. What an honor to speak to all the donor's and share with them our son's story! Hopefully we will be able to open some eyes about this ugly disease.

Well Jeffrey's counts look Great so we will go in on Wednesday morning for bone marrow asperation surgery. If everything looks good in his marrow then we will start round 4 of chemo on monday. I will post again wednesday night. Love, The Z's

Good evening everyone! Well we just got the call from Dr. Greenfield and Jeffrey's bone marrow looks Great! That means we will start round 4 of chemo on Monday morning. We are looking at another 5 days of chemo so anyone that wants to stop by the hospital and say hi is more than welcome. Let's all pray that round 4 goes nice and smooth and that we get out on day 5 like last time. We love you all!

Leah said...

Hi guys. That is great news about Jeffrey. We are sure that everything will go as smoothly as last time! We'll be praying for you. Much love, The Mireles Family

I just wanted to let everyone know that Jeffrey's spinal tap surgery and round 4 of chemo has been pushed back to tomorrow morning. Dr. Greenfield had multiple surgeries scheduled for today so he wanted to just push it back a day instead of rushing around. Erika and I agreed fully! I will update again tomorrow night.

Jeffrey's surgery went Great this morning. He went in around 9 am and he was done and back in his room about 10. HE now has 5 days of chemo so hopefully we will be going home on Saturday night. I will update again tonight when I get home. We Love You all!

Good afternoon everyone! We are here in the hospital with Jeffrey who is in the middle of day 2 of chemo. The Dr. came in earlier and he said everything is looking good so far. It turns out that this round is 7 days not 5. The additional days are for the clinical test drug that they are giving Jeffrey. This is a good thing and hopefully it helps eliminate the Leukemia. Anyone is welcome to stop by and say hi! Have a Great Day!

Good afternoon everyone! We are here in the hospital and Jeffrey is doing Great! I had a nice talk with Dr. Greenfield this morning and he is just thrilled with Jeffrey's progress. He said he looks perfect and things could not be going any better. He also told me that after this round of chemo we should be home for about 4 weeks and before we have to come back in. He also said that the next round would be 2 days of chemo with us being released on the 3rd day. Then back the next week for 2 days of chemo and released on day 3 again. Then guess what? That is it!!! We will be done with Chemo!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! He said from that point forward Jeffrey will come in once a month for blood work to make sure he is still in remission and he will need to do that for a year. If we make it a year and he is still in remission then we will only need to come in once a year to get checked. Praise the Lord! So it looks like we have about 6 weeks left until we get back into a semi-normal routine. How nice it will be to spend Christmas and New Years at home! Please continue to pray for us throughout the home stretch, that Jeffrey will continue to show improvement and not get too frustrated ( imagine trying to keep a 2 yr old in a bed for a day let alone a week) and that Erika and I get a chance to start spending time together away from the hospital so we can focus on us!!! We Love YOu ALL SOOOO MUCH!!!!

I just got home from the hospital and Jeffrey is doing really good! HE has been getting a blood transfusion over the past 4 hours and he will start chemo at 11. Tomorrow we are looking at a platelet transfusion in the morning and chemo around noon. Hopefully everything will go smoothly and we can be released tomorrow evening. I will post when we find out more. I also want to tell you all that Jeffrey has been amazing during this round of chemo. HE has sooooo much energy and is always happy! What a blessing to have such a strong son!

Good morning everyone! I just wanted to let everyone know that we came home from the hospital last night!! Yeah!!! Jeffrey did awewsome once again during his chemo. He never spiked a fever or got sick at all! Thank You all for your prayers, does prayer work or what?? Praise GOD!! We should be home for about a month so if anyone wants to stop by and say hi, feel free to do so. Jeffrey is neutropenic right now so no kids for now but hopefully soon his counts will come up and he will be able to play with all his friends and cousins.

Hello everyone, I just wanted to let everyone know that we ended up back in the hospital tonight. We got home from a barbque at my parents and Jeffrey had a fever of 103. We called the Dr and he had us take him in right away. We are in the PICU because there were no rooms available on the pediatric floor. I will update again tomorrow.

Hello everyone! I just got home from the hospital and JEffrey had a busy day. He was moved from PICU to the 5th floor pediatric unit this morning. He was still pretty fussy because his counts are really low. He was given some antibiotics and then this evening they gave him a blood transfusion. Hopefully by tomorrow morning he will be feeling better. I will post around lunchtime tomorrow and upadate you on his progress. Keep the faith! Love, Jeff

I will post again on friday and THanks again for all the Love and Prayers you have been sending our way!

We are back in the hospital. Jeffrey came in yesterday because he had another fever. They gave him some antibiotics and took some blood cultures and then sent him home. We got a call this morning that the has a bacterial infection in his blood and that we needed to come back immediatley. At this point they are not sure exactley what type of infection it is but it looks like a streptococal infection. They have him on several different antibiotics and hope to narrow it down soon. I will post again tonight. Please pray for a speedy recovery. Love, Jeff

Well I just got home from the hospital and Jeffrey and Erika were just laying down to go to sleep. He has had a rough day, spiking fevers continuously. At one point his fever got up to 104 but now it is down to 101. He is scheduled to get a blood transfusion tomorrow and some more antibiotics. I will post again in the morning when we get some more info. Have a great night!

Sorry for the late notice but I wanted everyone to know that we are back at home. We were released yesterday at 2:30 and Jeffrey is doing Great! He has a nurse stop by each morning to give him antibiotics to fight the infection but the Dr. thinks he will be over this in about a week. HE is so happy to be home. When we pulled in the driveway he was yelling home, home. When we opened the door he ran right in and started playing with his toys and running around all happy. Oh the joys of home!! Thank you all for your prayers and words of encouragement, we love you all!

I just wanted to give everyone the latest update on Jeffrey. His white and red counts look great but his platelets are really low so we will be going into the hospital tomorrow morning at 9 for a platelet transfusion. IF everything goes smoothly we should be in and out of there in about 3 hours. I will update again tomorrow night.

Hi Everyone! I just wanted to give a little update on Jeffrey. On Saturday Jeffrey went into the hospital to get a platelet transfusion and everything went smoothly. I just finished giving him his last anti-biotic on Monday. He did so well. He amazes me everyday. There are days when it gets a little frustrating, especially when he's acting up and rolling his eyes at me (I don't know where he gets that :), but I wouldn't change it for the world! Sometimes I just sit and watch him while he's running around playing with his toys and singing along to the Doodlebops or Barney and I just can't believe how strong he has been through all of this. I never would have imagined him like this. When he was first diagnosed and they told us that he would have to undergo chemotherapy, I imagined the worse. I didn't know how I was going to get by watching my son suffering, but luckily he has made it easier on Jeff and I seeing him so happy, cheerful,& acting like a little ham! It has also helped us to get so much support from our family, friends, and the community. We love you all so much. I will update again soon. Jeffrey has a doctor's appt tomorrow to get blood work done and maybe we'll find out when his next round of chemo is. Hopefully he will get to spend his birthday at home. I can't believe he's already going to be 2!!! Thank you all for your continued love and support and your comforting words.

Jeffrey and I just got home from the hospital. He had to get a platelet transfusion since they were pretty low. Now he's all ready for Halloween! When his transfusion was done, Pam, Jeffrey's nurse, told us that the nurses upstairs wanted to see Jeffrey. When we got up there they all sang Happy Birthday to him and had a balloon and a card. It was the sweetest thing ever. I almost started to cry. We are so blessed to have the best nurses ever and best of all that they love Jeffrey so much. He had a great time that he didn't want to leave. So Jeffrey will be going in for more blood work on Monday and then they will determine when he's ready for his last round of chemo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeepee!! I can't believe it. Thank you all for your continued prayers and support. We love you all very much!

We got the results of Jeffrey's blood work today and his counts aren't quite where the Dr. wants them. He said they look good so Jeffrey will go in on Monday for more blood work and if his counts look better then we will begin his last round on Wednesday. I will update again on Monday night. Have a Great weekend!

Well we just got the call from the Dr and Jeffrey's counts look good but his platelets are dropping. He wants Jeffrey to come in again on Thursday for more blood work and if his counts don't look better he will need a platelet transfusion. We are happy that his counts look good but we are a little discouraged that his platelets have dropped. IF his Chemo keeps getting pushed back there is a good chance we could be in the hospital for Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for but after spending both Fathers Day and Mothers Day in the hospital we were hoping for a nice family Thanksgiving. Oh well, next year I guess. Count your blessing everyone!!!! Love, The Z's

Today I took Jeffrey in for more blood work since his platelet count was pretty low on Tuesday. We got the results back a little bit ago and his platelet count went down a little again. The doctor is not too worried about it. He is not going to have Jeffrey get a platelet transfusion or blood transfusion right now. He wants to wait a little to see if Jeffrey can make platelets and blood on his own. He could technically start the next round of chemo, but he doesn't want to do that until he can see that the platelets and blood are coming up on their own. He has another doctor appointment on Monday for more blood work. The nurse also told me that I have to be careful with him right now as far as him falling or cutting himself. That's a little hard with such an active little boy!!! :) Please keep Jeffrey in your prayers and hope that his platelets and blood come up on their own. Thank you all. I will update again on Monday or if there are any changes before.

Hello everyone. I wanted to give you a little update on Jeffrey. We went in for more blood work yesterday and the results came back and his blood count went down from 7.8 to like 7.7 so it's not too bad, but his platelets went from 24 to 25 so he's slowly recovering. We have to go back in on Thursday morning for more blood work and hopefully he'll show more improvements so that we could start his final round of chemo. We are praying that he starts before Thanksgiving, but if we're in the hospital, then that's where we need to be. As long as Jeffrey comes out of this healthy, we don't mind where we spend the holidays as long as we're together and healthy. I will update again on Thursday. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

Today I took Jeffrey to the hospital for more blood work. We got the results and it looks like both his red blood cells and platelets have gone down again. Dr. Greenfield is sending the labs to a pathologist to make sure that it's just due to the last chemo he got. He wants to make sure that this is the reason why he's not producing red blood cells and platelets on his own. They will call us tomorrow with the results. Let's hope and pray that it's nothing serious. I will update again tomorrow.

Sorry I haven't updated since we were waiting for Jeffrey's results. The pathologist took a look at Jeffrey's blood work and he didn't see anything abnormal in his blood stream so he also thinks that he's just taking time to recover from the last chemo. I took Jeffrey in today for more blood work and his nurse called us back and said that Jeffrey's red blood cells and platelets dropped again so he will need to go in all day tomorrow to get a blood transfusion and platelet transfusion, but the good thing is that he will be able to enjoy his Thanksgiving. He will be full of "extra" energy. Thanks for all the continued prayers and support.

Hello everyone. I wanted to give you another update on Jeffrey. Yesterday we went into the hospital so that he could get a blood and platelet transfusion because his counts were very low. We got to share a room with Isa Mireles and her family. It was great. She is so cute and smart. Everyone that came into the room said that our room was the party room. Now imagine Jeff and Rene (Isa's dad, who is also very funny) in the same room, oh my gosh, they entertained us and the nurses. We had a great time talking, laughing, and eating. I enjoyed talking to Jessica (Isa's mom) as she is going through the same thing that we are. She is so strong and very optimistic. Please keep Isa in your prayers as well. We hope that everyone has a great Thanksgiving with friends and family. We love you.

Hello everyone. So today I took Jeffrey back in for more blood work. The doctor checked him out today also because he's had a cold for the last couple of days. He said that he looked good. He told me that his platelets should be recovering now, if they still didn't recover then he might want to do a bone marrow aspiration just to make sure that everything is okay. He said that when he sent his last labs to the pathologist, everything was clear and there was no sign of leukemia cells (thank God!) He said that he was not worried about it and he doesn't anticipate that he will have to go that route. I got a call back about his labs and his red cells are doing well, but his platelet counts are low. We have to go back on Thursday for another check up. The doctor wants him to recover a little more from his cold. If everything looks good then they might start his last round on Friday. Let's pray that everything looks good. I will update again on Thursday.

This morning I took Jeffrey in for more blood work and we were hoping to hear good news, but unfortunately his platelets have dropped again. We have to go back in at 2pm today to get a platelet transfusion. I will update again later tonight. We'll be in for about 2 hours.

Anonymous said...

We just got home from the hospital and the platelet transfusion went well. We talked to the Dr. and he said that they would check Jeffrey's counts on Monday again to see where he's at and if they don't see an improvement then on Wednesday he will have a bone marrow aspiration. They want to see why he's not recovering and checking for any viruses. He said that he is not worried about this they just want to check everything out. I will update again on Monday. At least we'll have a nice little weekend with Jeffrey this week. Tomorrow, Jeff had the day off so we will be going together to the zoo and then we got tickets to the Snoopy on Ice from the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation and the hospital so we will be going to that on Saturday. Thanks for your continued prayers.
